R- Bored of the Rings (x,b)

Introduction

There's really no way for me to give an author review here, not being a regular fan of National Lampoon. Let's just say these guys were pretty funny (in a college-male sort of way) in the one book I've read by them, which was written so long ago that their current stuff probably bears little resemblance.

Spoofs

Bored of the Rings is a dated but very funny spoof on J. R. R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Actually, the spoof doesn't get very far in the grand scheme of things- it ends before half of the plot of The Fellowship of the Ring has been distorted, but this is nonetheless a good chuckle by the authors who went on to start National Lampoon. Many of the jokes are hopelessly late 60's, and much of the humor is of college-male level (Well, what do you expect? It was written by two guys in college in the late sixties!), but for baby-boomer fans of Tolkien who still have a sense of (slightly depraved) humor, it's worth picking up. Too many people take Tolkien too seriously, anyway.
